How Painfully Is Fibromyalgia Pain?

Fibromyalgia pain is something that gnaws at you constantly. It starts much like a simple body ache similar to that when you have flu. Gradually, it develops into a monstrous pain that engulfs you during every waking moment of your day. You will feel this pain increasing in intensity if you undergo any strenuous activity. At the same time, you would notice that you feel unusually tired all the time when you are inactive and resting throughout the day.

What Can Describe Fibromyalgia Pain?

Fibromyalgia pain varies from patient to patient. It could be so terrible that one cannot even move a finger or it could be just a nagging and irritating sensation that would be at the back of your mind throughout the day. There are attempts to classify the many types of pain by the way it feels and where it is located.

Muscular pain is a major symptom of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia pain could be felt deep in the muscle or these could be throbbing pain at the surface like what you would feel after you just hit yourself. Sometimes the muscles would feel like they are on fire and sometimes it is just a tingling sensation. All these symptoms can cause acute discomfort and would interfere with a patient's day-to-day chores.

Fibromyalgia pain also manifested itself through a dull pain all over the body - very similar to the ache induced by a bout of flu. You would feel like you have just been hit by a locomotive, with every bone, muscle and even your skin left in pain. However, this is not the end of it. One of the common characteristics of fibromyalgia pain and a major aid for the diagnosis of this condition is the peculiar localized ache. This pain would be very acute and would be found at around 10 to 20 specific spots on the body. These spots would be tender when left alone and extremely painful when touched.

Other Symptoms Characterizing Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia pain is only one part of this disease. It is accompanied by feeling of extreme fatigue, inability to concentrate, inability to perform mental activities, anxiety attacks, inability to sleep, acute restlessness and so on. Depression is a common side effect of this condition that often results from the feeling of helplessness in fighting this disease and the lack of sleep.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for fibromyalgia. However, with the right medications and proper symptomatic treatment you would be able to control the pain and cope with the depression.
