Advance Fibromyalgia Research
Fibromyalgia has progressed from a commonly misunderstood condition to a widely studied disease, although it still not a very well understood disease. Until recently, it was not even considered a disease by the medical profession. Some doctors opined that it is a psychosomatic condition; while others said that it was a manifestation of another condition. It is only in the last few decades that fibromyalgia research unrevealed more about the chronic condition. Most fibromyalgia researches have mainly focused on the cause of the condition and the effects on the body. We know for certain that it causes extreme pain, fatigue, depression, and an overall sense of poor being, but it is still not known how fibromyalgia is initiated. We do not yet understand if it is caused by preexisting conditions or if it is hereditary, or some other cause. The latest advancements so far in fibromyalgia research have made available several new medications that can be used to control or reduce the symptoms. The effects of these medications are often temporary and will wear off soon after the medication treatment is halted. However, they can provide a measure of relief from the constant pain that most fibromyalgia sufferers have to live with. Some fibromyalgia researches have focused on the association between pain and certain behaviors or conditions. Areas like sleep, gender, stress, and overall pain sensitivity have been the subjects of fibromyalgia research recently. Medical researchers hope to establish what, if any, are the factors that can contribute to the reduction of pain for fibromyalgia sufferers. By figuring out what precedes the pain, the fibromyalgia research studies hope to find a way to prevent it. One of the most promising fibromyalgia research studies currently being conducted has to do with the human pain tolerance and methods of coping with pain. Fibromyalgia research is probing into how attitude can predict how one will handle the condition. This area of study may help to clarify the connection between emotion and physical pain. The Way Ahead for Fibromyalgia Research It may seem to some that fibromyalgia research is advancing too slowly. Indeed, there have not been any remarkable breakthroughs in fibromyalgia research yet. However, every steps that fibromyalgia researchers take, we get a little closer to understanding this complex condition. So far nothing that fibromyalgia research studies have uncovered, will immediately change the lives of the sufferers. There is still no cure and no miracle medication to relieve all the symptoms of the condition. Fibromyalgia research into genetic has not isolated any gene as a cause of the condition as well. However, fibromyalgia research continues and one day we may be able to prevent or cure fibromyalgia. For now, fibromyalgia research offers a glimmer of hope for the sufferers.
